Laser vaginal rejuvenation
Vaginal rejuvenation is a short, painless procedure in which a special vaginal laser induces a thermal effect on the collagen found under the vaginal mucosa. During vaginal rejuvenation, we use a special vaginal laser that induces a thermal effect on the collagen found under the vaginal mucosa. In this way, we increase the reshaping and creation of new collagen fibres in the vaginal wall. The largest percentage of patients use this procedure after vaginal birth, during menopause (the change), during sexual dysfunction, and when there is a slight leakage of urine (urinary incontinence).
During the procedure, the patient sits in the gynaecology exam chair in the traditional position. The duration of the procedure is 20 to 30 minutes. The vaginal laser has a thermal effect on the vaginal mucosa and is painless. The correct indication of this procedure is important – the vaginal laser is intended for women who suffer from mild urinary incontinence or loose vaginal wall syndrome after childbirth and during menopause (change). Anatomical conditions in the vagina are changed during urinary incontinence and after childbirth; the internal diameter of the vagina increases, and this reduces the function of the pelvic floor, including the patient’s sexual satisfaction. With repeated vaginal deliveries, the risk of damage to the pelvic floor muscles also increases. The natural ageing process, lack of oestrogen, and congenital insufficiency of collagen are mentioned as other reasons for pelvic organ drop and vaginal wall laxity.
In the case of high-grade (II-III) urinary incontinence, it is necessary for the patient to undergo a surgical intervention such as Bulkamide (hyaluronic acid injection) or a tension-free vaginal tape (TVT, TOT). Other options for strengthening the pelvic floor are, for example, vaginoplasty and vaginal surgery with an implant (mesh). After the laser procedure, some patients describe slight spotting or burning in the vagina. A week without intercourse is recommended. The aforementioned vaginal procedures should only be performed by a doctor board-certified in urogynaecology. In total, the vaginal rejuvenation procedure is repeated three times, each time one month apart. Patients reported the first positive effect after the second procedure.
