The General Health Insurance Company (VZP) has started comprehensive screening for osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is one of the most common metabolic diseases, and its incidence is also increasing in the Czech population. Every second woman and every fifth man over the age of 50 suffers an osteoporotic fracture, especially in the older age groups, and these fractures are accompanied by a number of very serious complications, including high mortality.
We have included osteoporosis screening in the standard preventive examinations provided by our outpatient gynaecologists. As part of preventive screening by a gynaecologist at two-year intervals for women one year after menopause up to the age of 59 and for men between the ages of 65 and 69, their history and the FRAX questionnaire will be taken. If osteoporosis is suspected, the patient will be measured with a bone densitometer.
The doctors of our clinic are also actively involved in this project.
